Top 5 Super-Stylish Women Who Graced The Red Carpet At The Headies Awards

There were women who simply made heads turn when they appeared at the Headies awards ceremony recently. These are some of those women.
One of the greatest indigenous awards shows, the Headies is committed to celebrating the very best of our country's musicians and artists.

The 12th edition of the Headies Awards held on Saturday night and ended on Sunday morning at the Convention Center, Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos and the red carpet was alight with nominees and special guests alike.

You can count on Nigerians to show out when it comes to a high profile event and that was no different with stars such as Tiwa Savage, Waje and Simi (all nominated) showing people exactly why they are some of the most talked about women in the industry.

From long glamorous gowns to short and flirty mini-dresses, the stars came dressed in a variety of formal wear.

Check out the top 5 best dressed women of the night below.

Osas Ighodaro

Everyone's favourite actress Osas looked absolutely breathtaking in this peach number. The one shoulder mini-dress was jazzed up with a statement flower and and we love the tulle train. This dress really showed off Osas' incredible post- baby bod and did we mention the hair?! From Tiwa Savage to Osas, it seems short hair is the way this year.

Lilly Afe

Lilly Afe is fast shaping up to become a style icon. The young producer and actress really knows how to pull a red carpet look and this one shoulder yellow jumpsuit is no different. Where do we begin?! The exaggerated shoulder ruffle, the on-trend flares or shall we begin with how this fits her like a glove?! Let's not forget the simple yet fierce high ponytail. We love it all!

Dorcas Shola Fapson

Dorcas is giving us serious goddess vibes in this gorgeous pink column dress by DNA by Iconic Invanity dress. Styled by Moashy, Dorcas wears that dress  to perfection and how can we forget her makeup. Surely, that highlight can be spotted from space?! Chynabee really outdid herself with this beauty look. Look at the magic that happens when you have an incredible team behind you!

Simi

Simi has had it quite tough in the past with people commenting negatively about her personal style. In true Simi fashion, she has brushed off the haters each time but tonight, the talented songstress who is nominated a whopping 6 times, shined on the red carpet. We are absolutely in love with this glamorous gown which makes Simi look like a Grecian goddess. The makeup and the hair set the look off perfectly.

Alex Osagwa

She's undoubtedly the nation's darling after reaching the finals of BB Naija Double Wahala and has since been everywhere on her post show media tour. The next stop? The Headiies. Stylist to the stars, Swanky Jerry, got his hands on Alex and gave the young star the midas touch and doesn't she look sensational?! From her makeup, done by the talented Bibyonce, to her super-glam look. We love it and we cannot wait to see more of Alex.

NAFDAC Seals Off Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Others Over Codeine Abuse

Nigeria's drugs and narcotics control agency, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control have on Monday, sealed off three major pharmaceutical companies over codeine abuse

NAFDAC has shut down the Peace Standard Pharmaceutical ltd., BIORAJ Pharmaceutical ltd. both in Ilorin, Kwara, and the Emzor Pharmaceuticals Ind. Lagos as it probed the codeine-based syrup epidemic.

Codeine-based syrup is used in treatment of cough, but when abused could lead to harmful and deadly addiction.

In a statement by NAFDAC on Monday, Director General of the Agency, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye said that the clampdown was due to the companies’ inability to provide required documents for NAFDAC officials during the inspection of the facilities at Ilorin and Lagos.

“Due to insufficient evidence gathered and apparent resistance to provide needed documents during inspection on May 2, 2018 at the respective companies in Ilorin and Lagos, respectively, it has become necessary to shut down all product lines of the three companies.

“The companies are the Peace Standard Pharmaceutical ltd. at Plots 3 & 8, Adewole Industrial Estate, Lubcon Avenue, Ilorin, Kwara State and Bioraj Pharmaceutical Limited. No 405 Kaima Road, Ilorin, Kwara State.

“Also shut down was the Emzor Pharmaceuticals Ind. Ltd., Ajao Estate, Lagos.

“This is to allow for a full and comprehensive investigation; the three companies therefore remain closed,’’ the statement said.

“On May 2 and 3, a team of nine NAFDAC officers were sent to carry out investigational inspection at the companies that are licensed to manufacture codeine-containing syrup, and which were implicated in a BBC documentary.

“The team comprised of two from Drug and Evaluation Research – DER and seven from Investigation & Enforcement – I&E) and ten mobile police officers

“The focus of the assignment was to access and monitor from records the utilization, sales and effective distribution of the codeine containing cough syrups to the end users.

“Meanwhile, meeting of the stakeholders mentioned above is being planned while the shut down and full investigations continue.

“The reopening of the manufacturing companies will depend on the level of cooperation that is shown during the comprehensive investigation,’’ the statement said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Federal Health Ministry announced a ban on the production and import of cough syrup containing codeine last week .

This was in the wake of a BBC documentary on how codeine based cough syrups were fuelling an addiction epidemic in northern Nigeria.

This is The Real Worth Of The 45M Porche Car Davido Bought For Chioma

On April 30th 2018 the Nigerian social media was on frenzy has the African Hip Hop Singer Davido bought a Porche Car for his longtime girlfriend Chioma aka Chefchi on her birthday and according to online report the car is set to worth a sum of #45million.

This sum of ammount has kept the whole nigerians grils wondering what Chioma has done to Davido and some cross reaction from fans.

Some people are of the beleive that the car is not worth the price tag on it publicly and some also claim it worth more.
Report from herald.ng:
''Some news source put the value of the car at 45million and some set it as 40million. But the car is obviously a tokunbo (used car) vehicle and they claim that even the brand new Cayennes can be obtained for less than #45million.
According to research conducted by auto aficionados, the truck is a 2011 model which retails from about ($25,000) #10million, exclusive of customs and other charges. The total value of the vehicle is usually less than #20million. However the trim Davido purchased seemd to be full options probably bringing the total of the car to about #20million
Though still a large sum of money, it is nowhere near the #45million that would be spent to obtain a newer model of the vehicle.
Even the 2018 model starts retailing from ($65000) 24million, and certainly to get to Nigeria will still be less than 40million, depending on how ambitious the car dealer is. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that Davido has surely splurged on the love of his life. Its just not as big splurge as certin media elemensts have over hyped it to be.
Whatever the worth of the car maybe. It is a gift and we believe a gift should be invaluable as it comes from an individual that cherishes another individual.

Air pollution kills 7m people annually – WHO

The World  Health Organisation (WHO) says no fewer than seven million people die every year from exposure to polluted air.

According to a WHO report on Wednesday, ambient, or outdoor air pollution alone caused some 4.2 million deaths in 2016.

It added that  household air pollution from cooking with polluting fuels and technologies caused an estimated 3.8 million deaths in the same period.

Those figures are on a par with the number of deaths recorded in an earlier study published two years ago.

WHO said air pollution levels remain dangerously high in many parts of the world.

New data showed that nine out of 10 people breathe air containing high levels of pollutants.

According to the report, more than 90 per cent of air pollution-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, mainly in Asia and Africa, followed by low- and middle-income countries of the Eastern Mediterraneanregion, Europe and the Americas.

“Air pollution threatens us all, but the poorest and most marginalized people bear the brunt of the burden,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

“It is unacceptable that over 3 billion people – most of them women and children – are still breathing deadly smoke every day from using polluting stoves and fuels in their homes.

“If we don’t take urgent action on air pollution, we will never come close to achieving sustainable development,” he said.

The WHO recognises that air pollution is a critical risk factor for non-communicable diseases, causing an estimated one-quarter (24 per cent) of all adult deaths from heart disease, 25 per cent from strokes, 43 per cent from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and 29 per cent from lung cancer. Zuckerberg Unveils Plans For Facebook Dating Service

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced the world’s largest social network will soon include a new dating feature — while vowing to make privacy protection its top priority in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. JOSH EDELSON / AFP

Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg announced Tuesday the world’s largest social network will soon include a new dating feature — while vowing to make privacy protection its top priority in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

Zuckerberg unveiled the plans as he addressed Facebook’s annual F8 developers conference in San Jose, California — emphasizing that the focus would be on helping people find long-term partners.
“This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships, not just hookups,” Zuckerberg said in presenting the new feature, noting that one in three marriages in the United States starts online — and that some 200 million Facebook users identify as being single.

Under the new feature, users will be able to create a separate “dating” profile not visible to their network of friends, with potential matches recommended based on dating preferences, points in common and mutual acquaintances.

It will be free of charge, in line with Facebook’s core offering. The announcement sent shares in the online dating giant Match.com tumbling, finishing the formal trading day down 22 percent.

The 33-year-old CEO also said the dating offer was built from the ground up with privacy and safety in mind, as he underscored the firm’s commitment to boosting privacy protections.

Facebook’s closely-watched developer conference comes as the giant faces intense global scrutiny over the mass harvesting of personal data by Cambridge Analytica, a British political consultancy that worked for Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign.

Facebook has admitted up to 87 million users may have had their data hijacked in the scandal, which saw Zuckerberg grilled at length by the US Congress last month.

“We need to make sure that never happens again,” Zuckerberg told the audience, lightening the talk by sharing that friends made on online streaming video watch party at the social network of his hours testifying before Congress.

‘Clear history’

In a related move, Facebook announced an upcoming feature called “Clear History” that will allow users to see which apps and websites send the network information, delete the data from their account, and prevent Facebook from storing it.

The social network has already moved to limit the amount of data it shares with third-party applications and plans further steps to prevent a repeat of the Cambridge Analytica debacle, Zuckerberg said.

Facebook is also reviewing applications overall as well as auditing those that accessed large amounts of data to make sure access isn’t abused, he said.
“Security isn’t a problem than you ever fully solve,” Zuckerberg said, outlining the slew of efforts by

Facebook to battle election interference, misinformation, spam among other challenges.
“This is an arms race; we are going to be working to stay ahead of our adversaries forever.”

Zuckerberg’s blend of humour, humility, confidence and determination in a keynote presentation seemed to resonate with the gathering of developers, who credited Facebook with taking responsibility for problems and working on fixing them.

“I respect that they came out with it and didn’t do a cover-up,” said Malik Gillins of Movez, a startup behind an app crafted to streamline social event planning.

CCS Insight analyst Geoff Blaber was among analysts who felt Zuckerberg struck a successful balance between addressing the data privacy scandal and keeping outside developers focused on building apps to enhance the social network.

“Defiant message from Zuckerberg at #F8,” Blaber wrote on Twitter. “Feels like the first time they’ve been on the front foot in this saga.”

Message translation

Facebook separately announced that its popular Messenger app would soon be able to translate missives in real time, deploying artificial intelligence to enable text conversations between people using different languages.
The feature will launch in the United States with English and Spanish translations of conversations in the Marketplace section of Facebook, and will be extended to general Messenger use in coming weeks, the service said in a blog post.
Facebook joins internet giants Amazon, Google and Microsoft in offering artificial-intelligence based translation features — most prominently Google’s Pixel ear buds which promise real-time translation across dozens of languages.
Plans were also revealed to simplify the Messenger app, which critics contend has gotten clunky, and add group voice and video calls to Facebook’s other messaging service WhatsApp.
The slew of announcements at the developer-centric “F8” conference also included the arrival of a stand-alone Oculus Go headset to widen support for virtual reality by supporting social experiences such as watch parties.

BON Chairman Challenges Broadcasters To Be Balanced, Objective And Fair

BON Chairman Challenges Media Operators On Greater Transparency, Accountability
 BON Chairman, Mr John Momoh
Mr Momoh, who is also the Chairman/CEO of Channels Media Group, said this on Wednesday while addressing BON 69th General Assembly in Lagos State.

“Greater transparency and accountability are much needed in the current climate of misinformation, political lies and widespread distrust.

“In the social and political circumstance that we live in, the broadcaster should strive to be a medium of moderation, in such a way as to relay information with decorum, with a logic of perspective, and to be dispassionate in news reporting,” he said

The BON chairman noted that the rules and codes of practice of journalism had already highlighted balance, objectivity, and fairness as some of the key requirements in the profession.
He said that although the operators have a general understanding of these values; some keep them while others drop the ball in some cases.

As Nigeria steps into another critical time in its political life, Momoh urged the broadcasters to perform their roles creditably and professionally.
He also warned them to give careful thought to how content is being created, to avoid discrimination, lack of understanding, misinformation, intolerance and conflict.
He said, “There are several examples of where literal work or media content has been a source of great human conflict. There are also many examples of how a misguided broadcast has caused upheaval in societies, just because due regard for the rights or wishes of others have not been considered.

“We cannot also overstate our obligations as broadcasters, either in the moral or in the constitutional sense. In all the dimensions, the charge before us is not only very clear but also onerous, which is why we cannot afford to shirk our responsibilities.”
The Channels Media Group boss stressed further that the occurrence of hate speech cannot be undermined, with the growing influence of social media and its likely role in the forthcoming elections.
Momoh described hate speech as a great threat to national cohesion which can only be rivalled by physical harm, through maiming, and killings.
Some of the other speakers at the event are the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, as well as distinguished broadcaster and diplomat, Dr Christopher Kolade.
Professor Yakubu gave an insight into the preparations for the coming elections as it relates to the media, while Dr Kolade focused on hate speech in the build-up to the 2019 polls.

President Buhari speech during his White House Meeting with President Trump

Yesterday, Nigeria’s President Buhari met with President Trump in Washington where both leaders spoke on a number of issues ranging from security to economy and more.

Mr. president,
Senior Government officials,

I have just had excellent discussions with President Trump and I would like to reiterate my immense gratitude to you, Mr. President for your kind invitation and the very warm and generous hospitality extended to me and my delegation since our arrival in the United States;
2. We greatly appreciate the importance your administration attaches to a strong relationship with Nigeria. The United States remains for us a valued friend and strategic partner, whose support and solidarity over the years has meant a great deal to us. Our government’s three main priority areas are:
a) Security
b) Anti-corruption and good governance
c) Economic growth and job creation
3. We congratulate you, Mr. President on the statesmanly role you have played in so dramatically transforming the course of events in the Korean Peninsula to make the denuclearization of the region a real possibility.
4. On security, please accept our sincere congratulations on the important role played by the US in the defeat of ISIS, although some of the remnants have found their way to the Sahel region. We are very grateful for the strong US support in our fight against terrorism. We also appreciate very much your agreement to sell twelve Super Tucano A-29 war planes and weapons to Nigeria to effectively fight terrorism.
5. To contain the spate of insurgency in Nigeria, the Federal government has adopted a multi-sectoral approach, involving relevant government agencies to address the socio-economic and political dimensions while the Armed Forces of Nigeria assist the civil authorities to provide security and maintain law and order.
6. As part of efforts to address emerging cases of insurgency in the country, the Nigerian Military adopted a non-kinetic counter terrorism/counter insurgency approach code-named “Operation safe corridor”, to de-radicalize, re-habilitate, and re-integrate willingly surrendered Boko-Haram members into the larger society.
7. This programme is currently embarking on a number of projects including: skill acquisition centers and integrated farms; comprising poultry, fishpond and greenhouse farming, among others.
8. A number of international partners, including the International Organization for Migration have contributed to the success of Operation Safe Corridor. We will also appreciate whatever support we could also get from the US.
9. We are extremely grateful for your government’s support in the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the North East of Nigeria, as well as humanitarian assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons, through agencies such as the United States Agency for International Development and other international partners.
10. The USA has been to date the biggest contributor to the humanitarian response and last year gave approximately 500 million US Dollars in cash and in-kind contributions through the United Nations and other inter-governmental organizations. These have mainly supported protection activities, namely health, food assistance and shelter.
11. We are doing all we can to secure the release of the remaining abducted schoolgirls from Dapchi and Chibok. In this context, we will continue to welcome US collaboration in intelligence gathering, hostage negotiations and information-sharing.
12. The government is taking necessary steps to promote the peaceful co-existence of herdsmen and farmers, by focusing on boosting security and enforcing legislation that will guarantee herders and farmers’ access to land, reducing strife and promoting harmonizing economic activities.
13. I wish to extend sincere congratulations to you and your government on the impressive performance of the US economy under your watch.
14. Our aim is to diversify our economy by focusing on agriculture and food security; power and infrastructure. We have cut the importation of rice by about 90% thereby saving a significant amount of money. We very much welcome increased US investment in the Nigerian economy, especially in the non-oil sector.
15. Economic relations between Nigeria and the United States are anchored on three major instruments, namely: the Bi-National Commission, Trade and Investment Framework Agreement and the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act.
16. The Bi-National Commission in particular, comprising bilateral political, economic, developmental and humanitarian partnership, is a basic economic framework for engagement between our two countries.
17. Nigeria’s trade volume with the United States stood at six point zero-seven billion United States Dollars according to 2016 statistics and comprised four point one-seven-six billion united States dollars worth of Nigerian exports to the US and one point eight-nine-four billion United States Dollars US exports to Nigeria. We should work to increase these figures substantially and to make balance of trade more even.
18. We thank your government very much for the cooperation we have received in our effort to recover stolen funds. Our two governments have put the machinery in place for their respective Attorneys-General to collaborate in ensuring the return to Nigeria of over five hundred million United States Dollars ($500) of looted funds siphoned away in banks around the world.
19. In this connection, we congratulate the US government on launching a Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative, which was spearheaded by the US Department of Justice Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering. We hope that we can continue to count on your support in our efforts to recover our money.
20. The Government of Nigeria remains deeply committed to the principles of human rights as well as the promotion and protection of people’s freedom, even in the process of fighting terror. We will ensure that all documented cases of human rights abuses are investigated and those responsible for violations held accountable for their actions.
21. In addition, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria inaugurated the Nigerian Military Human Rights Dialogue in August 2015 to provide the Nigerian Military and Para-Military with necessary tools to integrate human rights practices into their code, education systems, field training and disciplinary systems.
22. To this end, the victims of a criminal law enforcement operation that occurred in 2013 (otherwise known as Apo-six) were compensated in April this year based on the findings of the National Human Rights Commission. Two of the police officers responsible were convicted for culpable homicide arising from the extra-judicial killings.
23. Mr. President, this is the first time in the history of Nigeria that the Federal Government compensated the victims of extra-judicial killings. It also provides a sustainable platform for local and international human rights organizations to constructively engage the Nigerian security forces on human rights concerns. We also look to share best practices in this area with the United States.
24. I thank you, Mr. President, again for hosting us and for your constructive response to our shaped problems. I hope you make Nigeria the first port of call whenever you visit African continent.
